From: "Fr John W Fenton" To: "Historic Preaching" Subject: HP: Announcing the Feasts Date: Friday, January 04, 2002 1:46 PM In the pre-Vatican II times, it was customary to announce the following immediately after the reading of the Holy Gospel. (The dates are for this liturgical year.) Beloved brethren, as we have recently rejoiced over the birth of Our Lord Jesus Christ, now through the mercy of God I must tell you about the happiness that will stem from the resurrection of that same Lord and Savior: January 27 is Septuagesima Sunday; February 13 is Ash Wednesday, the beginning of the holy forty-day fast; On March 31, we will joyfully and reverently celebrate the holy feast of Easter, the Resurrection of Our Lord Jesus Christ; On May 9, we will celebrate the Ascension of Our Lord Jesus Christ; May 19 is the Feast of Holy Pentecost; May 30 is the Feast of the Most Holy Body and Most Precious Blood of Our Lord Jesus Christ; And as He wills, December 1 will be the First Sunday of the Advent season of Our Lord Jesus Christ; to whom be honor and glory forever and ever. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Rev.
